Subject DO NOT REPLY [Bug 46702] New: Performance opportunities for PCL and Java2D output
Date Thu, 12 Feb 2009 08:44:41 GMT
https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=46702

Summary: Performance opportunities for PCL and Java2D output
           Product: Fop
           Version: 1.0dev
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: pcl
        AssignedTo: fop-dev@xmlgraphics.apache.org
        ReportedBy: jeremias@apache.org

During comparative performance tests I noticed that PCL and Java2D-based output
formats are much slower than our other formats. I've done a short profiling
session which immediately highlighted Java2DFontMetrics as hot spot. Both PCL
and Java2D use that. Without investigating more closely, I believe that
performance could be improved a lot by implementing a better cache mechanism
for Java2D-based font metrics. This is not a high priority for me at the moment
which is why I'm just making this note in Bugzilla.
