Sorry about that.

I have a Renderer that produces PCL output. As you know PCL uses escape
sequences for commands and may include binary data (images, etc). PCL output
tends to get garbled when passed through a Writer. To address this I have
been using a sub-class of Driver that adds an OutputStream. OK this is not a
big deal - mostly I have just come to really dislike Writers, too many times
have to say (Oh, that is why the output does not match the input... It's a
Writer... Doh!).

Anyhow, it seems to me that a Writer would preclude binary output from FOP
(using the standard Driver). Maybe I am wrong, but I have not seen any way
to have a Writer not mess with data passed through it.

Huh? I can't parse your last sentence, so I don't understand why this is
good for you.

Did I read that correctly. You changed Driver to use an OutputStream instead
of a Writer...

Hmmm (regains composure)

Why thank you kind sir. I have been hoping that someone would do this. Even
suggested it a couple of times. I am sure that other people using non-plain
text renderers will appreciate this as well.

Thank You,
Art (java.io.Writer hater!)
