Subject Use of "Deprecated"
Date Fri, 02 Jul 2004 04:45:55 GMT
I've come across a few places where methods are deprecated without much
of a description of why or what people should use instead. For example,
the method getRootSet() in Profile. Philosophically, I understood the
purpose of this keyword was to indicate to developers that a newer,
prefered method was available and should be used instead, because the
existing method should go away at a future point.

If this is the philosophy used in the Jetspeed project, would it be
permissible to remove the deprecated keyword where no documentation or
easily recognizable alternative method is available? Perhaps these could
be changed to FIXME comments?
