I see source files (ex: BaseClientRegistry) where there is a double check for 
debugging by using a private final static DEBUG like this:

if (DEBUG && Log.getLogger().isDebugEnabled())
This means that code changes are needed to activate debug-logging in these 
classes. I suggest removing the DEBUG, and rather use more fine grained LOG4J 
configuration. For this to be useful, I suggest to go thru the source files 
and add a 

static Logger logger = Log.getLogger(<class>.class);
