Hi Paul,
no, we don't use a browser in this case. We use 'vi' to edit portlets.xreg and 
want to put german umlauts in the description metatag. But any escape character 
code we use for this purpose will be replaced by jetspeed by a question mark. 
Looks like the parser jetspeed uses can't understand  these escape codes?
