Subject Committership in specified duration
Date Tue, 13 Jan 2004 03:10:51 GMT

Hello folks,

This is what i have been thinking about. For long.

"Committership in specified duration".

For example, "Log4XXX" (New Project) needs some
committers in order to improve the quality of the
codebases rapidly and reliably, it seems.
(Patching, patching ... would dampen developers/contributors
spirits, especially in early stages)

In such a case, how about allowing people to ask "Mr. XYZ
-- Committership privilege for *three* months only"...
Clear declaration of the *termination* period would bring
nice results in the incubation process (going out), codebase, etc.
If incubation might succeed, Mr.XYZ would be able to obtain
"formal" committership lawfully. :) ... Even though fail, ZOMBIE
committers (and zombie projects?) would never be increased. :)

I am sure that this can solve most of the problems in
incubator project... :)
Also, if you will apply "committership in specified duration" system
to incubator associated projects only, motivation to be baptized
in incubator project would be increased dramatically.
Anyone will be happy. Yay.

This idea is based upon "Less Restrictive Alternatives" policy.

Happy incubation.
