Subject [jira] [Created] (SIS-461) Replace "ordinate" by "coordinate"
Date Tue, 11 Jun 2019 13:06:00 GMT
Martin Desruisseaux created SIS-461:

             Summary: Replace "ordinate" by "coordinate"
                 Key: SIS-461
             Project: Spatial Information Systems
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Geometry, Referencing
    Affects Versions: 0.8, 0.7, 0.6, 0.5, 0.4, 0.3
            Reporter: Martin Desruisseaux
            Assignee: Martin Desruisseaux
             Fix For: 1.0

Replace the term "ordinate" by "coordinate" for conformance with ISO 19111 terminology. The
ISO standard said:

In this document, a coordinate is one of _n_ scalar values that define the position of a single
point. In other contexts, the term _ordinate_ is used for a single value and _coordinate_
for multiple ordinates. Such usage is not part of this document.

SIS was using _ordinate_, but OGC/ISO standards consistently use _coordinate_ instead. We
should align on international standard usage.

This change implies the following incompatible changes:

* In {{org.apache.sis.geometry.DirectPosition1D}}, public field {{ordinate}} is renamed {{coordinate}}.
* Serialization UUID of {{DirectPosition1D}} and {{ArrayEnvelope}} changed.
