Martin Desruisseaux commented on SIS-350:
-----------------------------------------

Hello Sisinda and Buddhi. Thanks for proposing! I suggest that you draft a proposal on any
page at your choice. A structure for the proposal is proposed in my comment posted March 3th
above. About JAXB issue, there is various libraries available on Android that may be considered
as a replacement, but I think it would be part of GSoC work to evaluate them in the context
of Apache SIS support of ISO 19115 and ISO 19136 standards. One element to take in account
is that the main branch of SIS will continue to evolve and we want to keep merging with the
Android branch as easily as possible. For making that easier, it would help to find a library
that requires as few changes as possible to the code base.

> Create an Apache SIS branch for Android. This will require the following work:
> * Simulate the JAXB framework if possible, or remove SIS usage of JAXB on the Android
branch. JAXB is extensively used in the metadata modules, but some usages are found also in
other modules.
> * Remove Java2D dependency. This work has already been anticipated by keeping Java2D
dependency in separated classes or packages. When a replacement is available on the Android
platform, the Java2D type should be substituted by the replacement. This should include in
particular {{java.awt.geom.AffineTransform}}.
