Martin Desruisseaux commented on SIS-9:
---------------------------------------

This work is partially done in SIS 0.6 but not yet finished. We have the capability to read
a spatial reference systems from WKT but not yet from EPSG codes. We also have some map projection
implementations but only the simplest ones. We have the capability to do some coordinate conversions
but not yet datum shifts.

> We should really support the ability to move between multiple spatial reference systems.
Right now, we are implicitly assuming WGS84, but there are plenty of others, e.g., North American
Datum of 1983 for one. As part of this, we should support conversion between different geoids,
the ability to parse and read existing files and determine their reference system (maybe this
should be an issue in itself), and conversion functions to take SIS data and go back and forth.
Of course, this has large implications on distance functions, existing geometric operators
and spatial comparators.
