Subject [jira] [Created] (SIS-131) Database backend for CRS definitions
Date Fri, 30 Aug 2013 08:51:51 GMT
Martin Desruisseaux created SIS-131:
---------------------------------------

             Summary: Database backend for CRS definitions
                 Key: SIS-131
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SIS-131
             Project: Spatial Information Systems
          Issue Type: Bug
          Components: Referencing
            Reporter: Martin Desruisseaux
            Assignee: Martin Desruisseaux
            Priority: Critical
             Fix For: 0.4

We will need some kind of database for holding the Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS) definitions.
The main source of CRS definitions is the EPSG database (http://www.epsg.org), which provide
their definitions as SQL scripts. The proposal is to use the database created by those scripts
directly. We propose to support at least the following engine:

* Apache Derby (http://db.apache.org/derby)
* HSQL (http://hsqldb.org)
* PostgreSQL (http://www.postgresql.org)
* Shark (http://spark.incubator.apache.org)
* MS-Access (actually the original EPSG format)
