That's correct, Serf calls OpenSSL directly. Still, it's not a good idea to have multiple
versions of OpenSSL loaded in your process, so you'll either have to compile APR with the
same OpenSSL version as Serf, or disable the crypto API in APR (Serf doesn't need it).

I suggest you use the latest APR and APR-Util releasee (1.7.x) with Serf 1.4.x.
