Hey all! The Pagespeed people just submitted a proposal [1] to join the Apache Incubator. I decided to take a quick look, to see if they're still using serf. Yup. Looks like they have some local mods: https://github.com/pagespeed/mod_pagespeed/tree/master/third_party/serf Maybe as Apache siblings, it would be possible to smooth out some of the integration.
