I haven't even installed that myself and I have not heart anyone using it yet to build jetspeed.
But it is supposed to be backwards compatible, so I would't expect it causing something like

with jdk 1.4.2.

Ah, all of us still are using 2.0.4.
Don't know about this one, but I guess it might be worth trying it out with 2.0.4 yourself.

The interesting part is what java call is executed on line 70 in this build.xml
If the problem persists after you tried out maven 2.0.4, try to find out the real cause by
running mvn with option -e (or even -X)
