You probably need to export some environment variables for HBase to 
point things to the right place, so that it can use its own bundled 
hadoop libraries:

export HBASE_CONF_DIR=/opt/hbase/conf
export HBASE_CP=/opt/hbase/lib
export HBASE_HOME=/opt/hbase
