I will extract a small test case from my code together with a test index tonight.

But I must point out that I didn't notice that the initial reporters stack trace has a Delete()
operation in it. What I see are IOExceptions when querying the index, which are thrown, caught
and handled *internally* since they don't propagate to user code. This definitely is not a
problem for small scale application, but when you have many users hitting the code path it
has the potential become a performance hit, especially when I am doing real-time-ish search.
