Do you wish to participate?  If so, I encourage you to feel free to
sign up on the wiki at this time.

Scanning the current list it appears likely that we have plenty of
volunteers who likely will want to scratch that same itch so signing
up may not be necessary.

Meanwhile, I encourage you to look at the overall history of the ASF
and how we have dealt with patents in the past and not presume that we
will suddenly abandon how we approach such matters.
