While transferring the trademark to a non-US entity is something a lawyer would 
need to sort out for us, licensing it is a path we've been down before with 
other ASF
marks.  Things like an non-ASF operated conference like Hadoop World are 
permitted by an
MOU between the parties.  Roy or Larry might find a reason to object, but off 
the top of
my head I don't believe there's a substantial reason why we couldn't license the 
trademark to TDF if things don't work out at the ASF.
