Even more strangely, I can use Byte.MAX_VALUE as an argument, but if I try
to use a const declared as

public static final byte BAR = 1;


Im getting the following error:

Error:Groovyc: Attribute 'value' should have type 'java.lang.Byte'; but
found type 'java.lang.Integer' in @Version


What am I missing?
