Sorry, I missed Java version change for 2.3+. Well, that's unfortunate.

It is my understanding that preemptive authentication fixes the scheme.
The only question remaining is whether to support only Basic or Digest as
(which would require an implementation of DigestAuthenticator for testing
as well
as servers that accept random nonces, so I'm not quite sure whether it is
used live anywhere).

That's a different PR. Sorry about confusion, I meant the first commit of
(the second one contains a partial fix for IVY-450).
