java task gets java.io.IOException: java: cannot execute

Summary: java task gets java.io.IOException: java: cannot execute
           Product: Ant
           Version: 1.3
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Normal
          Priority: Other
         Component: Core tasks
        AssignedTo: ant-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: kab@aglow.com

Hi, totally new here, and don't know if this is deserving of
a bug in Ant ... but I just wanted to report my findings.

(Please close this after you review it and see if it needs to be
fixed here or else documented in a FAQ somewhere)

After doing numerous googles and such I narrowed down a problem
I was having. I was trying to do a <java fork="yes" ... task, and it
was unable to do it.

The problem was that I had /usr/local/netscape479 in the front of my
PATH. Under there is a "java" directory. Apparently the
java.lang.UNIXProcess.forkAndExec(Native Method) method steps
through the path and if it finds a file (or dir!), it tries to run
it. As soon as I moved /usr/local/netscape479 to the end of my path,
it works. Call it operator error, but the error message that came
from Ant (or forkAndExec method) was kind of tough to resolve.

Thx- close this any time you feel. PS - I saw other bugs like this
closed as "works for me", because it was an environment problem,
I think it really just needs to be noted in a faq somewhere.
